Compilations
compilation vol. IV overview
The fourth volume of the 8088 Record Collective’s compilation series is due for release in February 2010. It will be a professional pressed compact disc in a sealed jacket sleeve. The single-disc compilation will feature 20 tracks and three options for visual artwork. For this compilation, we are also including a poster option, yielding another format in which visual artists may flourish.
The call for submissions begins May 15th and continues through September 30th. For an extended calendar of events, including when you may expect your copies of the compilation and the official release date of Compilation Vol. IV, please check out the schedule below. If you have any questions, please contact Emily at emily (at) 8088records (dot) com.
musicians guidelines
If you are interested in having your music on the compilation, you will be responsible for submitting your track and money donation of $110 by September 30th, 2009. First, create an account on the 8088 Record Collective website. Utilize the submissions form to send us your music and donation. Once the album has been professionally pressed, you will receive at least 75 copies of the compilation.
The tracks submissions are based on a first come, first served basis. There will be regularly updated lists of bands interested in submitting their music versus the official list of bands who have submitted both their track and their money donation. The only way to secure a track on Compilation Vol IV is to submit your music and donation before 20 others sign up or by September 30th.
visual artists guidelines
Submitting your visual artwork to the compilation requires no money donation. First, create an account on the 8088 Record Collective website. Head to the Forum thread to post your artwork. Throughout the month of October, your image[s] and others will be voted on as the artwork for the front of the jacket sleeve, the back of the jacket sleeve, and on the disc itself. We will also be offering 8088 Record Collective posters this time around, which you can submit your artwork for, as well.
posters guidelines
The 8088 Record Collective posters will not be specific to Compilation Vol. IV, but used as a generic poster to advertise for shows. The limited edition 11″ x 7″ poster will include a visual artist’s submission, to be voted on in the forum, as well as blocks of space for writing in your band name and show information. These can be used to flier for 8088 specific shows (such as the Compilation IV release) or simply for a random show when you don’t have the time to create a physical flier.
When submitting your track for the fourth compilation, you may option to donate an extra $2 to receive an amount of posters. If all of the bands donate an extra $2 with their compilation track donation, each of them will receive 14 posters. If an band decides not to donate the extra $2, that band’s 14 posters will be distributed amongst the remaining bands that decide to donate. By donating two additional dollars at the time of your compilation track donation, you will receive at least 14 posters, but may receive many more.
waivers & legality
This next bit we’re required to discuss by law.
In submitting your music and visual art, you are allowing the 8088 Record Collective to distribute that art however they may see fit (with credit, of course). You are agreeing that the 8088 Record Collective may have permission not only act as a legal representative on your behalf in terms of pressing the compilation, but also to upload it to websites for promotional reasons. You also understand that you will not gain a percentage from any internet sales of Compilation Vol. IV sponsored by the 8088 Record Collective, but that this money will go into the Collective fund to pay for promotional tools and internet server costs.
